UCF Central IT

At the University of Central Florida, Information Technology is centralized. This single department is responsible for the majority of hardware/software support, infrastructure, and data security.

Executive Leadership

  • UCF’s Office of the CIO (OCIO) leads IT and security efforts, reporting directly to the Provost. It oversees various IT domains including services, strategy, infrastructure, security, applications, and instructional resources.
  • The OCIO is committed to enhancing collaboration, driving research innovation, and boosting academic and administrative success through technology. It manages significant enterprise projects and handles a substantial budget and workforce.

Direct Reports

The OCIO includes four main verticals, each led by an Associate Vice President. These verticals support the CIO directly:

  • Operations and Planning:
    Manages strategic and procedural IT aspects, focusing on change management and strategic planning to align IT projects with university goals, enhancing service stability and adapting to evolving infrastructure needs.
  • CTO Vertical:
    Serves as the technological backbone of the university, ensuring a robust IT infrastructure, seamless communication, and the advancement of educational technology initiatives across client services, communications, infrastructure, instructional resources, and telecom.
  • Information Security:
    Safeguards the university’s digital environment through comprehensive risk management, compliance, and cybersecurity, including governance, identity management, and threat mitigation.
  • Enterprise Applications:
    Oversees critical software and systems like PeopleSoft and Workday, driving digital transformation and integration, ensuring strong application performance, and supporting seamless academic and administrative operations.

Indirect Reports – IT@UCF

IT@UCF encompasses those performing IT-related roles in various colleges that are not directly overseen by central UCF IT. These specialized IT departments are tailored to the unique needs of their respective colleges and report directly to them, yet they collaborate with central UCF IT to ensure standards and continuity are upheld. Examples include:

  • College of Medicine (CM):
    Supports the College of Medicine by managing EHR access, developing custom applications, administrating database systems, maintaining medical technology and ensuring robust IT infrastructure and security that is HIPAA compliant.
  • Graduate and Research Information Technology (GRIT):
    Provides support for high-performance computing and storage, virtualization, and data management. Offers comprehensive technical assistance for hardware and software, integrating innovative technologies to enhance research and academic initiatives.
