How do I get authorization to view documents in the ViewStar System?

To get access to the ViewStar Imaging System, you must submit a request online by going to https://apps.eis.ucf.edu/AutoWebAcct/NewAcctReq.aspx. Completely fill out the form. The data manager from the department of interest will be notified of your request. You will be notified whether you have been approved or denied access via e-mail. If you have been approved, an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to use the system.

How do I configure my workstation to use UCF InfoStore?

No special workstation configuration is necessary with the new viewer as with previous viewers.

The new Document Viewer used by UCF InfoStore is a web-based component compatible with most browsers. The site utilizes HTML5, Javascript, and as with other UCF resources and PeopleSoft, you will need to enable pop-ups for the site.

  • The Following browsers are currently supported:
    • Chrome (recommended browser)
    • Firefox
    • Internet Explorer 11

With your mouse cursor, Click the Zoom In or Zoom Out buttons or directly adjust the zoom level as desired using the slider.

How do I save the document to my desktop with the Document Viewer?

While the Document Viewer does not support a direct save function, you can save a standard TIFF-format document to your desktop by clicking the Print Icon and selecting the “Convert to PDF” option. Other document types such as HTML documents will be accessible via a link and can be downloaded as determined by your browser of choice.

  • Click the Printer icon on the viewer toolbar.
  • Check the “Convert to PDF” option and click the Print Button.
  • Wait for the all the pages to finish caching.
  • The document will be presented to you by your browser’s PDF handler, select where to save the document and give it a meaningful name so it can easily be found.
The web browser is not properly refreshing between searches or images in IE.

In order for UCF InfoStore to properly display search results and images, certain browser settings need to be configured for caching web pages. Depending on your browser version, you might need to change the cache settings. For Internet Explorer please set the following:

  • From the menu bar, select Tools, Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, Browsing History section, click on the Settings button.
  • The Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box will appear.
  • Under “Check for newer version of stored pages,” select the radio button “Every time I visit the web page.”
  • Click OK to accept the change.
  • Click OK in the Internet Options dialog box.
I’m having problems printing a document.

When you try to print the document, if you only get the first page of the document plus the Document Attributes, you are clicking on the wrong print icon. You need to select the print icon from the viewer toolbar which is located right above the image.

The http address appears on the printed document.

By default when you try to print a document from a web page the address will appear in the header or footer of the print out. To get around this you can convert the document to a PDF first with the steps below, or turn this setting off as determined by your browser of choice.

  • Click the Printer icon on the viewer toolbar.
  • Check the “Convert to PDF” option and click the Print Button.
  • Wait for the all the pages to finish caching.
  • The document will be presented to you by your browser’s PDF handler, select the print option and follow your browser’s dialog prompts to complete the printing.
