How do I get authorization to view documents in the ViewStar System?

To get access to the ViewStar Imaging System, you must submit a request online by going tohttps://apps.eis.ucf.edu/AutoWebAcct/NewAcctReq.aspx. Completely fill out the form. The data manager from the department of interest will be notified of your request. You will be notified whether you have been approved or denied access via e-mail. If you have been approved, an email will be sent to you with instructions on how to use the system.

How do I configure my workstation to use UCF InfoStore?

Click HERE and follow the instructions on the page under the WinForm Workstation Setup section.

How do I zoom in/out with the WinForm Viewer?

With your mouse cursor, highlight the area you which to zoom in to. Double click to zoom out.

How do I save the document to my desktop with the WinForm Viewer?

The WinForm Viewer does not support a direct save function. You can save it by using one of the many virtual print drivers such as the one which comes with Microsoft Office 2007 for Tiff/MDI or Adobe Professional for PDF. If you have one of these virtual print drivers installed, simply follow the following steps.

  • Click the Printer icon on the viewer toolbar.
  • Select the virtual print driver from the list of printers and click the Print button.
  • Wait for the all the pages to finish caching.
  • Select where to save the document and give it a meaningful name so it can easily be found.
The web browser is not properly refreshing between searches or images.

In order for UCF InfoStore to properly display search results and images, certain browser settings need to be configured for caching web pages. Depending on your browser version, you might need to change the cache settings. For Internet Explorer please set the following:

  • From the menu bar, select Tools, Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, Browsing History section, click on the Settings button.
  • The Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box will appear.
  • Under “Check for newer version of stored pages,” select the radio button “Every time I visit the webpage.”
  • Click OK to accept the change.
  • Click OK in the Internet Options dialog box.
I’m having problems printing a document using IE.

When you try to print the document, if you only get the first page of the document plus the Document Attributes, you are clicking on the wrong print icon. You are selecting the print icon from the IE toolbar. You need to select the print icon from the viewer toolbar which is located right above the image.

Unable to see images when using the WinForm Viewer version.

Warning icon in the status bar reports “document.WinForms.DocumentView.Options is null or not an object”.

Ensure that .NET Framework 2.0 is installed on the workstation. Ensure that https://apps.eis.ucf.edu/UCFInfoStore has been added to the Trusted Zone. Run WinFormConfiguration.exe on the workstation. If you are still unable to view the image, go to Tools, Internet Options. Select the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Security section. Ensure that “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” is NOT CHECKED. If it is, uncheck it, click OK. Close out of all IE session for setting to take effect. Re-launch IE and verify that the image now appears.

Viewer stopped working after MS Updates were installed on the computer.

Determine if .NET Framework 4.5.1 is installed on the computer:

  • Go to Start\Control Panel\Programs and Features
  • Sort list by Name and look for “Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1” OR In the Search Programs and Features box, type in “Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1”
  • If “Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1” is listed, then notify ViewStar Support by sending an email to viewstar@ucf.edu. The fix will require editing the Windows Registry.

Disclaimer: The Windows Registry is vitally important to the proper operation of the Windows operating system. The registry contains complex system information and an incorrect change to your computer’s registry could render your computer inoperable. We strongly recommended that you back up the registry before making any changes and that you only change values in the registry that you understand or have been instructed to change.

An error message appears when attempting to add a Text or Comment markup.

The following error message will appear when attempting to add a Text or Comment markup on documents when using IE 11 on a Windows 10 computer:

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.

This is a known issue with IE 11 on a Windows 10 computer when either a Text or Comment markup is the first type added when a user opens a document. There is no resolution to this error from the vendor at this time. The user can just click Continue to proceed. Although this error occurs, the markup will still be added to the document. If a user adds another type of markup first (i.e. Highlight), this error will not appear for any subsequent markup added.
